ProAction Cops & Kids Baseball Tournament

The event was a success and we look forward to next year’s exciting baseball tournament! Read on for a recap of the days highlights.
Clear blue skies were the perfect backdrop for the excited cheers and giggles from kids who came out to play Baseball last Sunday in Victoria Park. Teams were made up of a mix of cops and kids for the fun, FREE baseball tournament. The four teams were entered by officers from ProAction’s three chapters; Hamilton, Toronto and Durham Police Services. Cops and kids played on the same team, working together to guide their team to victory! The mix of police and youth teams allows for the youth to interact with the officers on a fun and positive level. The Round Robin Tournament was a great success! Between each game was the Home Run Challenge in which two officers had 10 swings to hit a ball over the outfield fence. This resulted in cheers and encouraging chants from the kids who watched with wide eyes as their role models hit it out of the park! ProAction provided pizza, snacks and drinks throughout the day. Tournament sponsors were on hand to help out and cheer on the teams, as were local parents and family.
The kids gave it their all and a few games even went into extra innings, ending in a nail biting final. The day capped off with an awards ceremony where Durham team took the winner’s trophy, Hamilton 2 team took the runner up spot with Hamilton 1 team and Toronto team coming in a close third. The excitement levels of the kids never faltered the whole day and each youth was thrilled to receive their blue ribbon medals.
This tournament is one example of the many programs ProAction provides so that all the youth who have the passion and desire to play team sports have an outlet to do so.
ProAction Cops & Kids is a charity that funds programs, developed and run by Hamilton police officers, to reach youth in our communities. Our goal is to build mutual trust and respect between cops and kids, breaking down stereotypes and improving the safety of our communities for everyone.
